Gettysburg Weekend

I wanted to share my weekend experience because it was fun in a creepy kind of way. I, along with some friends of mine, went to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (May 19 & 20, 2007). As I am sure many of you know, it is the location where Abraham Lincoln recited his famous “3-Minute-Speech”. During the Civil War this area experienced one of the bloodiest battles in American History. We stayed at the Farnsworth House Inn (www.farnsworthhouseinn.com). These buildings – which consist of the oldest part being built in 1810 – were turned into a B&B. It is also in the top 7 most haunted hotels in the United States. We stayed in the Lincoln Room. Initially, my first impression was that it was overwhelmingly Old Victorian, which is NOT my cup-of-tea. . After perusing the town, we returned to the room that evening. My two friends relaxed in the bathroom Jacuzzi while I opted to watch the History Channel. Although the bathroom motif was still very Victorian, they thankfully installed some modern luxuries. (Side note: I decided to take advantage of the cable TV since I don’t have it at home.) When finished, they drained the tub and got ready for bed. Let me note that there is not a door between the bedroom and the bathroom. The only thing separating these two sections is a Chinese folding door. Needless to say, the passageway between these two rooms is not completely covered because if you stand on a stool you can look over the screen. According to the clock on the nightstand, it was 1:30AM when we were awoken by the flowing rush of water coming from the jacuzzi faucet. Our dialogue transpired as follows: “Somebody go check it out.” “No, you go check it.” “I’m not going to look.” “Well, I’m not going either.” After this juvenile, but chilling conversation, the water stopped flowing. Then…….we heard what sounded like somebody playing in the jacuzzi. If we weren’t so tired from that day’s earlier activities, we would have left. Fortunately, we were so exhausted, we all opted to ignore the sounds and go back to bed. Lucky for us, this whole incident only lasted about 20 minutes. That morning, there was water in the jacuzzi.

I also took random pictures of the room to see if anything would appear in my digital camera. The only interesting shot I got was the figure on the door (click on embedded photo to enlarge).

It may be a reflection from the mirror but, who knows? All I know is there was nothing on that door before or after I took the picture. If what my friends and I encountered was truly a supernatural experience, then it was very benign; creepy, but harmless. If any of you decide to do what we did, I say go for it. As I’ve stated at the beginning: “fun in a creepy kind of way”. As for me, I don’t think I’ll ever do this again. Been there, done that.
